Lane Kiffin, current head football coach at Florida Atlantic, might be making a push to open up the eyes of coaches in the NFL, as he worked out suspended New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram earlier today. Ingram, who is serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, took to the field after Florida Atlantic wrapped up practice.
Kiffin’s reasoning behind letting Ingram work out at the facility – the “Alabama roots.” Ingram won the Heisman Trophy, being the first Alabama player to do so, in 2009. Kiffin was offensive coordinator for Alabama from 2015 to 2017. But is that the real reason? Kiffin has it working at Florida Atlantic and has a career college head coaching record of 48-25, while only a 5-15 NFL head coaching record, so it seems unlikely that Kiffin would want to go back to the NFL. But, taking Florida Atlantic to a Bowl Game last year for the first time since 2008 and winning the Bowl Game, Kiffin might have that itch to be back in the league.
