A kicker’s main job is to make field goals and extra points and if they do not, they will not have their job long. Well, it was Black Monday for several kickers who did not do their job on Sunday. The Minnesota Vikings could have and should have defeated the Green Bay Packers, but rookie kicker Daniel Carlson went 0-3 on field goal attempts, including 0-2 in overtime. Yes, nine points the Vikings missed out on because of him. The result, Carlson is looking for a new job.
The Cleveland Browns on the other hand are a team that could easily be 2-0 instead of 0-1-1. They are not 2-0 though because of kicker Zane Gonzalez. In week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Gonzalez missed a field goal and the Browns tied 21-21. This past weekend, against the New Orleans Saints, Gonzalez missed two extra points and two field goals. The Browns lost by a field goal. Today, Gonzalez has the same result as Carlson – looking for a new job.
